Mazda CX-5 (2017) Review
The mid-sized SUV market is one of the most heavily congested and competitive sectors in the UK. Dominated by the Nissan Qashqai, it includes the likes of the Ford Kuga, VW Tiguan and Audi Q3.
But one of the best-looking, understated and comprehensively packaged cars in the sector is the Mazda CX-5. Initially launched in 2012, this is the recently unveiled second-gen model.
It’s an important model for the Japanese carmaker, as crossovers and SUVs combined now account for 40% of its sales.
This is the range-topping, 2.2-litre 175ps AWD Sport Nav diesel, fresh from completing a 1150-mile round-trip from Oxford-Aberdeen, over three days and in torrential rain. Thank goodness for the All-Wheel Drive.

Pros

  • Sporty, stylish looks
  • Surefooted AWD
  • Refined, comfy cabin
  • Plenty of room
  • Relaxed motorway cruiser

Cons

  • No seven-seat option
  • Lots of rivals
